Accident & Emergency - CALL 999

Whatever the day or time, if you or someone else experiences severe chest pain, loss of blood or suspected broken bones, go to your nearest accident and emergency department or call 999.

Accident and emergency departments are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can assess serious injuries and provide emergency treatment.

People living in Waltham Forest are now able to make an appointment to see a GP in the evenings and at weekends.

Our dedicated team are here to treat those minor ailments that occur as well as providing specialist management of long-term conditions and clinics covering a wide range of healthcare issues. We offer services from two sites; Chingway Medical Centre is a branch site of Churchill Medical Centre.The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.

Once registered, patients and healthcare professionals work together to ensure the most appropriate care is provided. This partnership philosophy extends even further and our active patient group exists to make sure that patient needs and the practice offering are always heading in the same direction.

LOCAL PHARMACY: All pharmacies offer general medical advice for minor ailments. We utilise the Minor Ailments Scheme in order to maximize our doctor’s appointments.

MINOR AILMENTS: All pharmacists can treat many common health complaints. They can give advice or, where     appropriate, prescribe FREE medicines that will help to clear up the problem. If your problem is more serious and needs the attention of a GP, your pharmacist will recognise this and advise you to see your GP.

If everybody went to a pharmacist with common health problems, more time would be freed for our GPs. This might make it easier to get a convenient appointment with your GP next time you need one.

In east London we can improve the quality of care you receive by sharing the right information about you between our local NHS and social care organisations who are providing you with your direct care. We call this sharing of information Data Sharing and the people sharing this data your Direct Care Team who will be people you will at some point be involved directly in your care be it your GP, or the A&E team when you visit for an emergency, or the social care team looking after you in your home. The sharing of information has always happened (to a lesser degree) with paper processes but systems are allowing us to share more relevant information about you amongst your Direct Care Team helping them to be more efficient and support theirs and your decision making on your care.

This work is being led by your local clinicians who want to help support you receiving the best quality care possible. They want to be as transparent as possible so that you can feel assured that data is being shared with your best interests at heart and they want you to be involved in this as best you see fit. In line with the new General Data Protection Regulations which came into force in May 2018, and the Health and Social Care Act (2015) we are adopting an implied consent model for sharing data for direct care purposes between the members of your Direct Care Team.
